Newport Getaway
Our getaway weekend to Newport
Was just what we needed you knew
Now we’re painting the sky
With the words that we sing
And each note that we’re bending
Each color we’re blending
Each touch I’m extending’s – for you
We’ve been held to the shore by our anchors
Now we’re letting those old lovers go
Taking a chance, learning to dance
Painting the sky with our song
And for us it’s a new kind of music
Joyful sounds we’ve been missing too long
Really a new kind of loving
Not just rhythm but color and tone
Notes stretching long to the splash
Of the waves, soaring on wings like a gull
Cider and rum by a sweet crackling fire
Magenta sky gold setting sun
Every inch of our canvas is color and light
There’s no place for loneliness here
Leaving our past, having a blast
Painting the sky with our song
The crowd at the jazz bar’s so vivid
Piano bass vocal and drums
As we dance I am listening to you
So glad our long trial is done
It’s your face and no other
These stories you tell
Your casual courage
About walking through hell
Our getaway weekend to Newport
Was just what we needed you knew
Now we’re painting the sky
With the words that we sing
And each note that we’re bending
Each color we’re blending
Each touch I’m extending’s – for you
